Animal Families

People have families, and animals have families, too!

Wolves. A wolf family is a pack. A pack usually has six to ten wolves. The mother and the father are the leaders. Their babies are pups. The pups are small and gray, and their eyes are blue. Every wolf in the pack is important.

Elephants. An elephant family is a herd. The boss of the herd isn't a father. She's a grandmother! She's old and very smart. Her daughters and their babies are in the herd, too. A baby elephant is a calf. It's about 220 pounds (100 kilograms)! Its ears are big, but its trunk is short.

Penguins. Emperor penguins are from Antarctica. It's very cold there. The penguin dad has a big job. The egg is on his feet for two months! Where is the mom? She's in the ocean, and she's very hungry.

Which animal family is your favorite?
