Our Fourth of July Party

Next Friday is the Fourth of July. It's Independence Day, America's birthday. On July 4, 1776, the United States said goodbye to Great Britain. Today, Americans celebrate with parties, parades and fireworks.

The Millers are going to have a big party in their yard, and the Parkers and Bára are going to come, too. Everybody has a job.

Dad is going to cook burgers and hot dogs on the grill. Mom is going to make an apple pie. "I'll help you," says Bára. "And I'm going to bake a Czech cake. It's called buchty." Emma is going to decorate the yard with red, white and blue flags. Sam is going to wear his Uncle Sam hat.

"And what am I going to do?" asks Jake. "You're going to clean the garage," says Mom. "The guests are going to sit there if it rains." "Oh no!" "Don't worry," says Bára. "I'll help you."

In the evening, they are going to watch the big fireworks show in the city.

Then Emma looks at her phone. "Bad news! The weather app says it's going to rain on Friday." Jake smiles. "No problem. I'll bring the umbrellas, and we'll eat in the clean garage!"
