Conversation 23, B2. Dialogue: Should social media have an age limit of sixteen?.

A As I see it, a strict age limit is the only way to protect young teenagers.

B I take your point, but surely parents are in a better position to decide than the government?

A Admittedly, parents know their own children best. But what it all comes down to is that many parents simply don't know what their kids are doing online.

B That's not necessarily true. And even if it were, kids would just lie about their age.

A To some extent, yes. But if platforms had to verify age properly, it would be much harder.

B Can I just come in here? What worries me is privacy. Who would store all that ID data?

A That's a fair concern. Coming back to the main question, though – do you think thirteen is old enough?

B Honestly, it depends on the child. Maybe the real answer is better education, not a ban.
