Star-Spangled Englishcw2-09 · Conversation Workbook A2–B1
Conversation Workbook, level B1, lesson 9. Apologies, problems and advice.
Exercise 3. Listen to the conversation. A problem with a friend.
You look upset, Adam. What's wrong?
I had an argument with Filip. I told some people about his new girlfriend, and he found out.
Was it a secret?
Kind of. I should have asked him first. Now he isn't talking to me.
Have you apologized?
I sent him a message, but he didn't answer.
If I were you, I'd speak to him face to face. A message is too easy.
Maybe. But what if he doesn't want to listen?
One option might be to write him a real letter. Another possibility is to ask Eva to help – they're good friends.
I think I'll talk to him tomorrow before training. I'll tell him it's my fault and it won't happen again.
That's a good idea. It happens. Friends can sort it out.
Exercise 4. Your turn. Listen, stop the recording and answer. Then listen to a possible answer.
A.
Why didn't you tell me the meeting was canceled?
I'm sorry about that. I should have told you earlier.
B.
You broke my headphones!
It's my fault, and I'll buy you new ones as soon as I can.
C.
I failed my driving test. What should I do?
If I were you, I'd book another lesson first.
D.
I don't know how to pay for the school trip.
One option might be to get a weekend job. Another possibility is to ask the school for help.
E.
I'm really sorry, I lost your book.
It happens. Let's sort it out.
F.
Why don't you talk to your teacher about it?
That's a good idea. I'll think about it.
This is the end of the recording.
