Conversation Workbook, level B1, lesson 21. Exam step 3: talking about a topic.
Exercise 3. Listen to the conversation. A model talk: Traveling.
I'd like to talk about traveling. First, I'll say a few words about how people travel today, then I'll talk about my own experience, and finally I'll compare the advantages and disadvantages of different kinds of transport.
Firstly, people travel much more than in the past. Compared to my grandparents' time, flights are cheap and you can book everything online. For instance, my sister flew to London for thirty euros last spring.
From my own experience, the best trips are the ones you plan yourself. Last summer, I went interrailing with two friends. We visited five countries in two weeks, and we slept in hostels.
Another important point is transport. One advantage of flying is that it's fast. On the other hand, a big disadvantage is that it's bad for the environment. Trains are slower, but they're more comfortable and you can see the landscape.
In Ukraine, most people travel long distances by train, whereas in the U.S., people use cars more.
To sum up, traveling is a great way to learn about the world, and all in all, I think we should travel more by train.
Exercise 4. Your turn. Listen, stop the recording and answer. Then listen to a possible answer.
