Conversation Workbook, level B2, lesson 2. Telling stories and anecdotes.
Exercise 3. Listen to the conversation. The wrong wedding.
You'll never guess what happened to me last Saturday.
Go on, what happened?
Well, my cousin was getting married in a little church outside Chernihiv. I'd been driving for two hours, and I was already late because I'd gotten lost twice.
Oh no.
So I finally found a church with lots of cars outside, ran in and sat down at the back. The ceremony had already started.
Lucky you made it.
That's what I thought. But just as I was about to take a photo of the bride, I realized I didn't recognize her at all.
You're kidding!
And to make matters worse, the woman next to me asked me which side of the family I was from.
No way! What did you say?
I said "the groom's" and hoped for the best. It turned out that my cousin's wedding was in the next village, in a church that looks almost identical.
That must have been so embarrassing! Did you make it in the end?
Just in time for the cake. Looking back, it was actually quite funny.
Exercise 4. Your turn. Listen, stop the recording and answer. Then listen to a possible answer.
A. Start a story about your last vacation.
Did I ever tell you about the time I missed my flight to Spain?
B. Set the scene.
It was late at night and I'd been traveling for hours.
C. Add something unexpected.
Just as I was about to fall asleep, the fire alarm went off.
D.
I got locked out of my apartment in the rain.
Oh no, poor you! What happened next?
E.
And then a bear walked out of the forest!
You're kidding! That must have been terrifying.
F. End your story.
It turned out to be a false alarm. Looking back, it was actually quite funny.
This is the end of the recording.
